- Injera is the staple cuisine found in most restaurants and is served with almost every meal.
- It is made from Teff grain and is usually a round pancake that is fermented.
Expect
- Expect to find menus in restaurants written in both Amharic and English languages.
- Hand washing before and after eating in any restaurant is a common practice.
- You will be expected to use your right hand while eating. However, in most advanced restaurants, cutlery such as knives, forks and spoons will be set on the table for your own convenience.
- Deserts are not quite common in Ethiopian restaurants but most have adopted the western culture of presenting deserts before the main meal is set.
- Drinking water is always provided in clay jugs or metal jugs on the table but it is advisable to order your drinks be it water or soft drinks.
- Don’t be surprised to see people in restaurants eating tera sega –raw meat. It is one of the most ordered cuisine by locals and is considered luxurious.
- Be careful not to choose it in the menu if you’re not used to it.
